Professional at work in the finance role the internship prepares you for

The role

What finance and accounts teams do every day

Every business, from a small shop to a listed company, runs on accurate books. The accounts team records each sale and purchase, pays vendors and staff, collects money from customers and closes the books each month. It also files GST returns and deducts TDS correctly, because mistakes bring penalties.

This work never goes away, and it now happens in software. Firms across Tamil Nadu use Tally, Zoho Books and Excel every day. They struggle to find freshers who can post an entry, match a bank statement and explain a GST return without weeks of hand-holding. College syllabi explain the concepts but rarely give that practice.

A finance internship fixes this by putting real transactions in front of you. Our finance internship is built around the tasks a junior accountant handles in the first month of a job, so you walk into interviews with practical answers.

  • Post journal entries and maintain ledgers
  • Prepare a trial balance and final accounts
  • Understand and compute GST and TDS
  • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts

Interns learning finance with Icanio Tech School mentors

Inside the program

A typical week in the finance internship

Each week of the finance internship is built around a set of transactions. On the first day your mentor gives you a batch of bills, receipts and bank entries. Your job is to record them correctly and explain each decision.

Midweek is for posting and checking. You enter the vouchers in Tally or Zoho Books, then work out the GST and TDS on each one. You learn to keep a clean trail, because an accountant who cannot show where a number came from will not be trusted with the next one.

At the end of the week you reconcile. You match your books against the bank statement and vendor balances, find the gaps and fix them. In our experience, this weekly close is the most valuable habit a finance internship can build, because it is exactly what employers expect each month.

  • A weekly batch of practice transactions
  • Voucher entry in Tally and Zoho Books
  • GST and TDS workings for every relevant entry
  • An end-of-week reconciliation reviewed by your mentor

Outcomes

What you will achieve in the finance internship

Each outcome below is a practical skill you can demonstrate in an interview or a skills test.

  • Core accounting skills

You handle bookkeeping, accounts preparation and the complete accounting cycle, from journal entry to final accounts.

  • Taxation compliance

You understand GST, TDS and the return filing process well enough to support a compliance team from day one.

  • Software proficiency

You work confidently in Excel, Zoho Books and Tally, the three tools most small and mid-sized firms rely on.

  • Reconciliation and controls

You reconcile bank and vendor accounts and validate financial records, so errors are caught before they grow.

    Finance Intern

I'm B. Madhukiran, pursuing my Bachelor of Commerce at Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, and I interned with the finance team at ICANIO to understand how finance operates in a technology-driven organisation. The most valuable lesson was strengthening my foundational knowledge in finance, since without strong basics it's difficult to learn anything further. I most enjoyed getting hands-on practice with real financial statements, preparing statements, trial balances, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for the finance internship?

Students and graduates with basic comfort in numbers can apply. The finance internship suits B.Com, BBA and Economics students, CA and CMA aspirants, career switchers and small business owners. You do not need prior work experience. Our team will look at your background and suggest a duration that fits your goals.

Do I need to know Tally before joining?

No. Phase 3 covers Tally and Zoho Books from company setup onwards. If you already know Tally, your mentor will move you faster and add more practice sets. What matters more is a clear grasp of debits and credits, which we cover in Phase 1 before you touch any software.

How long is the finance internship?

You choose the duration, from 15 days up to six months. A short internship covers accounting basics and GST and TDS in depth. Three to six months lets you complete all four phases, practise in Excel, Zoho Books and Tally, and close a full month of books. Our team helps you decide.

Does the finance internship cover GST and TDS?

Yes. Phase 2 is dedicated to taxation. You learn TDS concepts and common sections, compute TDS on everyday payments and see how filing works. On GST you learn input tax credit, output tax and the basics of return filing. You then apply both in your weekly practice sets.

Can I do the finance internship online?

Yes. You can attend offline at our centre, join online, or choose part-time weekday or weekend batches. Hybrid is also possible. Online interns get the same 1:1 mentorship, practice set reviews and certificate as offline interns, so choose whatever fits your college timetable best.

Is this internship useful for CA or CMA students?

Yes. CA and CMA aspirants use it to connect exam concepts with real accounting work. Posting entries, computing TDS and reconciling accounts in software makes the theory easier to remember. It also gives you practical examples to discuss in articleship or job interviews.

Will I get a certificate and placement support?

Every intern who completes the finance internship receives an Icanio Tech School certificate stating the track and duration. The final phase includes resume building and interview practice. Top performers are referred to the Icanio Technologies talent team, and our wider programs have placed over 1,000 students.

Can business owners join to manage their own accounts?

Yes. Entrepreneurs and SME owners join to understand their own books, GST compliance and records. By the end you can read your accounts, spot errors and talk confidently with your auditor or tax consultant. You can also decide whether Tally or Zoho Books suits your business better.
