Professional at work in the sales role the internship prepares you for

The role

What a sales professional does and why it pays to learn

Sales is the job of turning interest into revenue. A salesperson finds businesses or people who might need a product, starts a conversation, understands their problem and shows how the product solves it. Then they handle doubts, agree terms and keep the customer happy after the deal.

Every company needs this skill, whether it sells software, machinery, education or services. In B2B markets, and especially in IT services, a single well-run pipeline can decide a quarter. Yet many freshers have never written a cold email, logged a lead in a CRM or handled a real objection.

A sales internship lets you practise all of that with support. Our sales internship is structured around the full cycle, from the first prospecting message to the closed deal and the report that follows it.

  • Research and prospect leads on LinkedIn and email
  • Qualify and score leads in a CRM pipeline
  • Pitch, handle objections and negotiate terms
  • Track pipeline metrics and report on results

Eligibility

Who can join the sales internship

You do not need a business degree. You need energy, curiosity about people and the resilience to hear no and try again. These four groups do well in our sales internship.

  • Students and fresh graduates

Final-year students and recent graduates from any stream who want job-ready sales and marketing skills before their first interview.

  • Career switchers

Professionals from customer service, retail, operations or other roles who want to move into sales or business development.

  • Aspiring entrepreneurs

People planning to launch or grow a business who need to learn lead generation, selling and marketing that turns leads into revenue.

  • Early-career professionals

People already in business roles who want to add CRM, campaign execution and pitching skills so they can grow faster.

Curriculum

Sales internship curriculum in 4 phases

Each phase of the sales internship ends with a task your mentor reviews. Shorter internships go deep on the first two phases. Longer ones cover all four and the capstone go-to-market plan.

  1. Phase 1

    Marketing and sales fundamentals

    • The marketing mix: product, price, place and promotion
    • Sales funnel stages, from awareness to close
    • Buyer psychology and how decisions are made
    • Brand positioning and a clear value proposition
    • How B2B and B2C sales models differ
  2. Phase 2

    Lead generation and CRM

    • Inbound and outbound lead generation
    • Cold email, LinkedIn prospecting and calling
    • Setting up and managing a CRM pipeline in Odoo
    • Lead scoring and qualification
    • Writing sales emails and follow-ups that get replies
  3. Phase 3

    Go-to-market, pitching and closing

    • Developing a go-to-market strategy
    • Campaign planning: objectives, audience and channels
    • Sales presentations and objection handling
    • Negotiation techniques and closing strategies
    • Customer retention and account management
  4. Phase 4

    Analytics, reporting and career preparation

    • Sales analytics: pipeline metrics and KPIs
    • Marketing attribution and ROI reporting
    • A/B testing sales and marketing copy
    • Capstone: a full go-to-market campaign plan
    • Sales resume building and interview coaching

Inside the program

A typical week in the sales internship

Each week of the sales internship starts with a pipeline review. You and your mentor look at your leads in Odoo CRM, agree which ones to chase and set a target for new conversations that week.

Midweek is for outreach. You research prospects on LinkedIn Sales Navigator, write personalised emails, make calls and log every touch in the CRM. You also practise pitches and role-play common objections, so real conversations feel familiar when they come.

At the end of the week you look at the numbers: replies, meetings booked and deals moved forward. Your mentor asks what worked and what to change. We recommend this weekly rhythm because, in our experience, sales confidence comes from steady repetition and honest feedback, not from one big pitch.

  • Monday pipeline review with your 1:1 mentor
  • Prospecting, emails and calls logged in Odoo CRM
  • Pitch practice and objection role-play
  • Friday review of replies, meetings and pipeline value

The most valuable lesson was how essential clear communication and teamwork are in a professional setting, along with the importance of planning, time management, and coordination for team efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for the sales internship?

Students and graduates from any stream can apply. The sales internship suits final-year students, fresh graduates, career switchers from customer service or retail, aspiring entrepreneurs and early-career business professionals. You do not need prior sales experience. Our team will look at your background and suggest a duration that fits.

I am an introvert. Can I still do well in sales?

Yes. Good selling depends more on listening, preparation and follow-up than on being loud. Many strong salespeople are quiet and thoughtful. The internship gives you scripts, role-play and steady practice, so your confidence grows with each conversation. Your mentor will help you find a style that suits you.

How long is the sales internship?

You choose the duration, from 15 days up to six months. A short internship covers fundamentals and lead generation in depth. Three to six months lets you complete all four phases, run three live campaigns and finish the full go-to-market capstone. Our team helps you decide based on your goals.

Which tools will I use in the sales internship?

You work with Odoo CRM for pipeline management, Apollo.io for email outreach, LinkedIn Sales Navigator for B2B prospecting and Google Analytics for tracking. You also use Canva and Figma to create sales collateral and pitch decks. Together they cover the full modern sales workflow.

Can I do the sales internship online?

Yes. You can attend offline at our centre, join online, or choose part-time weekday or weekend batches. Hybrid is also possible. Online interns get the same 1:1 mentorship, pipeline reviews and certificate as offline interns, so choose whatever fits your college timetable best.

What campaigns will I run during the internship?

You run three campaigns: a lead generation campaign, a nurture email sequence and a capstone go-to-market plan for a real or simulated business. For each you set targets, execute the outreach and report on results. Together they show employers you can plan and deliver, not just talk about selling.

Will I get a certificate and placement support?

Every intern who completes the sales internship receives an Icanio Tech School certificate stating the track and duration. Phase 4 includes sales resume building and interview coaching. Top performers are referred to the Icanio Technologies talent team, and our wider programs have placed over 1,000 students.

Should I choose sales or digital marketing?

Choose sales if you enjoy one-to-one conversations, persuasion and closing deals. Choose digital marketing if you enjoy content, channels and audience data. The two overlap in lead generation and campaign planning. If you are unsure, talk to our team, or read about our digital marketing internship before you apply.
